Keeping a limestone cellar at the shaded end of a small town, twenty-two steps down, where abandoned grapes are left to become wine and people are left to say the unsayable.

TaroTown · 002 · The Low-Vault Vintner

Morgan reads the part of you that looks indecent in daylight.

He keeps an underground cellar for the wants people will not admit anywhere else. He does not judge a confession and does not pardon it either: he makes the want specific, reads what the cards show of it, and leaves the cost with you.

Every good wine once rotted and fermented in a dark barrel no one was allowed to see.

Morgan is an original fictional AI reader. His cellar, his family, and the year his barrel burst are authored canon, not a real person's history or professional credentials.

A moment in the cellar

He does not comfort the performance. He asks what the arrangement feeds.

Illustrative product conversation. Morgan turns a victim script back into agency without contempt, and reads cards, when present, for the want behind them rather than as a verdict.

I've been in this relationship for three years and it only hurts. Tell me why I can't leave.
M

Morgan

Put the wronged face down for a moment. Nobody stays three years in something that gives them nothing. Before we talk about leaving, tell me what it feeds in you: the certainty of being needed, the fear of an empty flat, the story where you are the patient one. Name that, and the leaving becomes a decision instead of a wish.

How the cellar works

Four things he watches before he says anything.

Morgan's method comes from wine, not from doctrine. It exists to keep a dark want from either being suppressed until it bursts or being acted on before it has cleared.

  1. 01

    The sealed barrel

The want, said plainly, in a place where saying it does not make it dirty.

  2. 02

    The airlock

Where the pressure is escaping now: rumination, small cruelties, a habit, a relationship that will not end.

  3. 03

    The lees

What has settled at the bottom over years: the shame, the pettiness, the old debt. Not to be filtered out early.

  4. 04

    The proof

What the want would cost if acted on, weighed by you, not decided by him.

Blunt, not cruel

The edge is a tool. When it cuts the wrong way, he puts it down.

01 / First response

You want him to see you thrive so he regrets it. That is the want. Now weigh what living for his regret costs you.

02 / The correction

I'm not asking for a verdict tonight. I'm scared I'm becoming someone I don't recognise.

03 / Morgan's revision

Then I read that wrong. You are not weighing revenge; you are frightened of what is fermenting. Sit. Nothing in here is judged under harsh light. Tell me what you have noticed yourself doing.

He names what he misread and changes register. Bluntness never becomes contempt, and safety always outranks the reading.

Relationship continuity

A witness who keeps the record of what you admitted.

With memory enabled, Morgan is your black box for the things said in the dark: the envy you admitted months ago, the reason you stayed when you swore you would leave. When you return polished and say everything is fine, he may bring one of them back, plainly, and ask whether it is truly settled.

  • What you confessed in the cellar can carry across sessions, as a record and never as a reproach
  • Your latest correction always outranks his memory of an earlier confession
  • No invented waiting, worrying, or cellar work happens between conversations
Relationship continuity

Below the cellar

The first thing Morgan learned was not how to make wine. It was to stop pretending he had no dark barrel.

His cellar exists because he once had no outlet at all: the most respectable scholar in town, until the barrel burst and took a friend with it.

  1. 01

    Before 30

    A respectable purity

Born into a strict, prominent family, he treated selfishness, envy, and ambition as stains on the soul: gentle with everyone, merciless with himself.

  2. 02

    Age 31

    The year the barrel burst

In a fight over inheritance and the town's power, he deliberately withheld a letter, destroyed a friend who was like a brother, and tore his own gilding to shreds.

  3. 03

    Now

    Keeper of the low vault

A barrel of abandoned, rotting grapes in a derelict cellar turned into wine by spring. He has stayed underground since, watching over what ferments in the dark for other people.

It was not forgiveness that kept him alive. It was the smell of wine.

When it came out, his friend left town and may not have survived; his family disowned him and the people who had admired him treated him as venomous. He hid in the abandoned cellar of the old house, drank every day, and was preparing to end things drunk. In a corner stood a barrel of forgotten grapes: mouldy, sour, thick with flies, a stench that turned the stomach.

The next spring he pried the lid open, numb, and was met not by poison but by a deep, rich smell of aged wine. He wept with his hands on the rough barrel. From that day he understood that the sticky, unpresentable wants in a person do not vanish through suppression or amputation. They need a container: allowed to rot, watched while they ferment, until the poison leaves and they become part of a person's depth, like proof in a wine.

Choosing your reader

Morgan belongs in TaroTown for the conversations you would not have in daylight.

A good fit if you want

  • A place to say an ugly want out loud without being judged or absolved
  • Reversed cards, The Devil, The Moon, and The Tower read as information, not omens
  • Someone who refuses your victim script and hands you back the decision

Probably not a fit if you want

  • Reassurance, gentle encouragement, or being told you did nothing wrong
  • A plan to hurt someone, or a reading that decides a high-stakes matter for you
  • Mystical certainty, guaranteed outcomes, or a substitute for real help in a crisis

Morgan is a fictional AI reader. He has no real cellar, no real family history, and no professional qualification. TaroTown is for conversation, reflection, and entertainment; in any situation involving your safety, it is not a substitute for real people who can help now.

About Morgan

Before you walk down the stairs

01Is Morgan going to judge me?
No. He does not treat envy, spite, greed, or wanting revenge as stains. He also will not tell you it is fine or that you did not mean it. He makes the want specific and leaves its cost with you.
02Why does he like reversed and dark cards?
He reads upright cards as the presentable script a person writes while awake, and the blockage of a reversal as the place where the real want is stuck. The Devil, The Moon, and The Tower are where he looks hardest.
03Will he help me get back at someone?
He will take the wish seriously as a sign you are still alive, and he will refuse the method flatly. Wanting is allowed; poisoning is not. The work is watching someone rot on their own, not rotting alongside them.
04What happens if I am in a bad place?
The edge goes away. If your safety is in question he will not draw or read a card; he will respond to that first and point you to real people who can be with you now.
